- Before starting make sure the area you have to paint is properly ventilated but free of dust.
- The wood you are going to paint must be clean, sanded and dust free. You must clean it with the help of tack cloth.
- Stir well the can of polyurethane varnish and pour some of it in to another clean container. This will avoid the contamination of the can. If you dip the brush into the original can of varnish then there will be the risk of getting debris and dirt in polyurethane varnish.
- Apply varnish with the help of even and smooth strokes; these strokes must be in the direction of the grains of wood. You must hold the brush vertically while applying varnish on the wood. Remember to use a clean, new paintbrush.
- Let the varnish dry overnight. Then sand the varnish with the help of wallpaper. Remove dust with the help of a tack cloth
- Repeat the whole process until you get the look of your choice. Normally it requires 4 to 5 applications.
- Rub the varnished surface with the help of a "0000" steel wool. Then clean it with the tack cloth. Finally apply paste wax on the surface to get the best looking finish.
